"White knight on c3" is obviously more helpful than "there is at least one pawn on the 4th rank", but not necessarily more than "there are exactly three pawns on the 4th rank.Free Kindergarten Math Addition Worksheets Printable I'd guess that about 10 clues is probably a good number, depending how informative they are. If there's few enough clues then the increase in possible solutions might actually make it easier. The less clues you give, the harder it is, and also the more likely it is that there are multiple solutions. So I found a new solution to the original problem but didn't solve your puzzle I'll try again later. The knight on d5 and the pawn on h4 were among the ones I started you with, but you replaced them with a pawn and a bishop, respectively. What I was trying to say was that you actually changed two of the eight pieces I started you out with. Unfortunately, I guess you didn't understand my response to your solution. :) They're all great, and I'll try to implement them with the next puzzle. You could include other kinds of information than just "this piece goes here", for example a given square is empty, or a given square contains a black/white/unspecified piece, or a square contains a pawn, but you aren't told what color, or a given column includes a bishop, or there is only one pawn on a certain row. You could do it yourself, but it might take hours. Suggestion: Since I gave a perfectly valid solution which wasn't the same as yours, don't waste your time trying Realistically, it would probably take a computer to do that, at least unless you add a lot more information. I also haven't figured out how to verify that the puzzle I put out has only one solution. I don't know how fast I can make puzzles, as I don't have a lot of time to spend on it.
